They called and said that they transferred the pension. Fraudsters steal pension savings over the phone. What kind of NPF is it and what does old age have to do with it?

The story is banal and not at all unique.
A month ago, I went to the government services website (I wanted to sign up for a clinic) and out of curiosity, I decided to check what kind of pension I had accumulated over the course of my entire, so to speak, working career.
And to my surprise I discovered that my accumulative part be in the fund of the Non-State Pension Fund "Soglasie" since March 15, 2017.
Suddenly...
I certainly didn’t express my consent to this (well, how the name of the fund coincided), I didn’t sign any agreements either of my own free will or by accident, no one from the “pension fund” came to me to threaten me that “everything will be lost”, my job too I didn’t look anywhere, I didn’t apply for loans. Well, in short, the point is that I couldn’t sign anything like that anywhere.
I decided to figure it out.
I contacted this NPF “Soglasie”, where they probably spent two weeks figuring out what and how.
And they found out that...
Yes, I didn’t write or sign an application for transfer to their fund, the passport details are wrong, the signature is also not mine, the phone number is not mine (and since it’s not mine, then they didn’t call me with confirmation from the fund). Of the “correct data” there is only the SNI number and my full name
Fun and that's it.
And then the fun began. The fund went quiet again for two weeks, I was transferred from one manager to another. Well, in general, “the evening ceased to be languid”
I asked them for a copy of “my” contract, they swore to me that they would bring it and set up a meeting.
We arrived a week ago and started apologizing that “the agent hired by so-and-so set them up, and it’s not their fault.”
And the “circus with horses” began. They are not going to provide me with any copy and, moreover, they brought me pieces of paper that need to be signed:
1. A statement that I have no complaints against them and that I will not apply anywhere (all organizations and offices where, in principle, you can apply in our country were listed here)
2. An agreement that during this year and the next three I will not speak or write anywhere about this situation, I will not contact the media, and so on...
3. And the apotheosis - a contract form in which they will enter my real data, and the number and date of the one on the left, in which everything is not correct...
And they seemed to promise compensation (though only in words, there were no papers about it, and the amount was simply ridiculous).

To all this, I answered them that I would not sign anything until I had a copy of the agreement in my hands. In general, it’s funny, I have no complaints about them, but why I don’t have them is no reason. Well, it occurred to me to write a complaint to them))))
Of course, they refused, they refuse to give me a copy, and in order to receive it, even upon a written request, they demand a copy of my SNI and passport from me. And my guess is that as soon as they receive them, the contract will immediately be reissued with the correct data and signature...

Fun and nothing more!!!
And it goes on...
For now, I will write a complaint to the Central Bank and Pension Fund. I only have on hand the papers that they asked me to sign and also... an audio recording of our conversation with the fund manager. I will send all this to the Central Bank and Pension Fund.
Most likely I will not go to court (unless it is necessary to return to the Pension Fund), I will try to resolve everything pre-trial. And not because I’m lazy or anything else, but because I take everything to heart and worry a lot (and due to my health this is very dangerous)
I didn’t get any compensation from them, I’ll transfer my pension, even if I lose interest for this year.
But I definitely don’t intend to stay in this fund.

In general, be careful, don’t trust scammers and check often where your pension is)))))

Another wave of fraud is gaining momentum in Moscow and the Moscow region - monetary reform. Unknown people ring the doorbell or telephone, introduce themselves as postmen, social workers, and tell pensioners about monetary reform and offer to “exchange old banknotes for new ones.” Citizens believe and exchange. The scammers take the real money and give souvenir money instead, but this is discovered after some time.

On hotline Pension Fund branches in the city of Moscow and the Moscow region are receiving messages from citizens about requests from unknown persons who are trying in various ways to find out bank card numbers and SNILS data - allegedly for the delivery of payments, compensation, and additional payments to pensions. To give credibility, unknowns use everything possible ways: address citizens by name and patronymic, name the first digits of bank card numbers, indicate to citizens their real address, make an appointment in the building Pension Fund etc., lulling vigilance.

The most common fraudulent schemes today are:

  • Phone calls. The unknown people introduce themselves as employees of the Pension Fund, give their first and middle names and report that the person was not paid extra, for example, for seniority. All funds will be transferred to a bank card, for which you need to provide its details and dictate the code that will be sent via SMS.
  • Spam sending via instant messengers - Viber or WhatsApp, via SMS, email, and also via special programs. The link from such a letter usually leads to the pseudo-site of the Pension Fund. Seeing a familiar interface, users begin to do what is prescribed: enter SNILS number or passport data, transfer certain payments in order to gain “access to databases.” After payment, of course, no funds are received.
  • Legal services on fake Pension Fund websites. On fake websites of the Pension Fund and the PFR Branch in Moscow and the Moscow Region, in particular, which replicate the pages of the official PFR website as much as possible, it is proposed to get answers to all existing questions. To do this, you need to formulate a question and fill in the data - city, name, phone number, and then wait for a call and an invitation to a “free” legal advice, where eventually paid services will be offered.
  • Walking around the apartments. Unknown people ring the doorbell, introduce themselves as employees of the Pension Fund, ask various questions and, as a rule, ask to provide SNILS data for some kind of re-registration. Next comes financial fraud.

There are many scam options. The task of every person is to remain vigilant and not provide his personal data to unknown persons - passport, SNILS, especially bank card numbers. We strongly recommend that you immediately report suspicious cases of possible criminals to law enforcement agencies.

Pension Fund Branch Russian Federation in Moscow and the Moscow Region reminds that employees of the Russian Pension Fund do not visit citizens at home, do not provide government services at home, do not conduct surveys on the street, do not request personal data or bank card details by phone, and do not report unexpected cash receipts, are not senders of messages in instant messengers, in social networks and other resources.

Please note that reliable news, hotline phone numbers, reception schedules, contacts of territorial authorities and other helpful information posted on the official site Pension Fund of Russia/, on the pages of the Branch of the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation for Moscow and the Moscow Region.

The branch of the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation for the Kaliningrad Region is concerned about incoming reports from citizens about cases of fraudulent actions on the part of persons visiting citizens’ apartments and introducing themselves as specialists from the territorial bodies of the Pension Fund.

The schemes used may vary depending on the age of the potential victim and the ingenuity of the scammers. But in most cases, their essence boils down to the following: posing as employees of the Pension Fund and presenting a fake ID, scammers try to find out the citizen’s personal data.

The PFR branch for the Kaliningrad region calls on citizens of all ages to be vigilant when communicating with strangers who come to your home! Follow simple rules. If suspicious citizens who introduce themselves as employees of the Pension Fund of Russia knock on your door, do not let them into your house or apartment. Do not show your documents to unknown people. Do not sign any papers without looking. Do not give them your money under any circumstances. Let us also remind you that Pension Fund employees carry out any work with the population only in customer services. Specialists do not call or visit the homes of pensioners unnecessarily, except in cases where a citizen cannot independently get to the Pension Fund Administration, having previously contacted the pension department with a request for a home visit.

There are cases when agents of various non-state pension funds (NPFs) introduce themselves as employees of the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation. Under any pretext, they find out the personal data of citizens. And subsequently they are transferred illegally pension savings to your NPF. In this regard, we draw the attention of residents of the Kaliningrad region that the transfer of pension savings is entirely voluntary! More information about this opportunity can be found on the official website of the Pension Fund.

This proposal is spelled out in the draft instructions of the Central Bank on basic standards for protecting the rights and interests of individuals and legal entities in the pension market. In addition, it will be possible to use video and audio recording in disputes between citizens and pension funds.

This proposal of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation is associated with a wave of complaints about the actions of non-state pension funds, which “steal” from other insured funds. the main problem is due to the fact that in the case of transferring a pension from a fund where the savings have been lying for less than five years, investment income burns out. Changing legislation is a lengthy process, so the mega-regulator has accelerated the solution to the problem by obliging SROs to monitor NPF compliance with the law.

How do people steal pensions now?

NPF agents conduct door-to-door visits to citizens, posing as employees of the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation:

  • disseminate deliberately false information, for example, refer to changed legislation or claim that transfer to a non-state pension fund is mandatory for all citizens;
  • convince of the safety of funds in the NPF, of which they are representatives, or make statements about the future income of the NPF received from investing pension savings;
  • disseminate misleading information about competing funds.

Fund agents sell NPFs to clients discreetly. Most often they are employees of insurance or credit institutions included in the same group of companies with the fund. Then, under the pretext of receiving preferential terms when registering insurance and banking services(including replacement of bank cards) offer the transfer of savings for preferential interest rates or, as part of the provision of the service, additionally include an agreement on the transfer of a pension to a non-state pension fund in a package of documents so that the client quietly signs it, among others.

Just say yes over the phone

New current year- cold calling. Citizens are being misled by messages that they have recently become clients of a non-state pension fund. There are many known cases of calls from people introducing themselves as employees of the Soglasie and Gazfond foundations. As a rule, the agent already has information about the SNILS number and other personal data of the insured person and is only asked to confirm that the service is interesting. This call may mean that an agent has already written an application on your behalf.

How to avoid this?

  1. Pension Fund representatives do not go door to door, and opening doors to strangers, much less showing them your documents, is unreasonable.
  2. If you are asked to provide your SNILS number by phone or call to confirm the information sent to personal number, it is better to clarify the purpose of sending this message, since it may be a confirmation code for transferring to the NPF.
  3. Read everything you sign carefully. Always.
  4. Do not discuss investing your savings over the phone.
  5. Track information about the current insurer according to mandatory pension insurance possible on the portal public services Russian Federation in the section “Pension savings”. If it turns out that your pension went to a non-state pension fund without your knowledge, you need to write a claim to the fund, informing them that they will then go to court.
  6. Go to court, because this is the only way to cancel the deal. Even the fact of fraud established by the regulator will not return your savings to where they were taken from.

Anews has selected several of the most common ways to “divorce” older people and advises you to definitely tell your older relatives about them.

Test results are ready, look for 100 thousand rubles

It is no secret that many pensioners regularly visit clinics and hospitals. And sometimes not because they are sick, but for preventive purposes. This is exactly what scammers fall for.

Their scheme is quite simple. The pensioner is called on his mobile or home phone, introduce themselves as an employee of the clinic and report that the test/examination results were supposedly received this morning.

Then the scammers act according to circumstances. If the pensioner actually recently had tests at the clinic, the situation is ideal. The person is informed that his life is under threat: if he does not start treatment today with drugs, of which there are very few in the city, he will have no chance of survival. The cost is announced. For example, 300 thousand rubles for a course of treatment, options are possible.

Next, scammers can clarify whether the pensioner holds cash and whether he has a bank account. If the money is at home, criminals offer to send a courier with the “necessary medicines” and pay on the spot. At the same time, they often clarify with whom the “patient” lives. If with relatives, they may offer to meet on the street. If an elderly person agrees and allows fake doctors into their home, most often they sell him cheap vitamins or dietary supplements under the guise of medicine.

If a pensioner keeps his savings in a bank, the pensioner is asked to urgently go there, withdraw money, meet the “courier doctor” at the entrance and transfer the required amount to him.

You should never panic. There is no need to say how much money you have at home or give your address. It is best to say that you do not intend to buy anything now, but that you will decide to buy after consulting with your doctor and your children. You can add that your son works in law enforcement.

If you nevertheless let slip about your savings, but have not yet met with the scammers, you should immediately call your relatives and tell them about the situation that has arisen.

Let's imagine such an episode. The doorbell rings, a voice behind the door: “Social security in such and such an area, open.” Hearing the name of a familiar organization, the pensioner throws open the door, and then the performance begins.

Free legal advice:

A person who identified himself as a social worker reports that only today the Ministry of Health, together with the department social protection(options of organizations are possible) is holding a promotion for pensioners and offering to acquire an amazing device that treats almost all diseases. And all this, one might say, for some 20 thousand rubles. Moreover, the usual cost of the device, according to the social worker, is 150 thousand.

Next, the uninvited guest talks about the advantages of the device, listing all the diseases that, in principle, any elderly person can suffer from, and strongly recommends buying the device. Often scammers promise to return your money if you don’t like the device for any reason.

Yielding to persuasion, the pensioner buys a device, which turns out to be a useless trinket from a Chinese online store, the price of which is 300 rubles.

Remember that employees of government agencies are not involved in the sale of medicines or medical devices. Do not give in to persuasion, stop the conversation as soon as money comes up.

Do not under any circumstances reveal where valuables are kept at home. If a guest does enter the apartment, keep an eye on him and try to send him out as quickly as possible, saying that your relatives are about to arrive. Or better yet, don’t let strangers into the house at all.

Free legal advice:

You are entitled to a refund for purchased medications

Another deception scheme related to the health of older people. The pensioner receives a call allegedly from social security, the Central Bank or the prosecutor's office and is informed that according to the new law, all elderly people who have ever bought dietary supplements (and, as you know, many have bought them) are entitled to compensation from the state. The caller says this is because dietary supplements have been found to be ineffective and senior citizens are the affected party. As a rule, the amount of compensation can vary from 200 thousand to a million rubles.

The happy pensioner literally melts from what he hears. And this is where the “divorce” begins. To receive money, an elderly person is asked to pay a state fee of approximately 10%. And they immediately provide you with clear instructions: go to an ATM or bank branch and transfer money to such and such an account. After the transfer, the phones from which the scammers called, of course, stop answering.

Inform the caller that all issues related to finances are resolved by you. family council with the children and hang up. Do not transfer money under any circumstances or provide your phone number bank card, and even more so the PIN and CVC code.

There is a payment from the state for you, tell me your card number

This fraudulent scheme is quite simple, it does not involve going to the bank and transferring money to someone else's account. A person simply receives a call, allegedly from the Pension Fund, and is told the good news that he is entitled to a one-time increase in his pension from the state. And they add that you don’t need to go anywhere, just provide your card number and the money will be transferred to you.

Free legal advice:

When an elderly person calls the card number, the caller begins to actively talk his teeth into him and, using complex terms, demands to tell him also his passport data, pension certificate number (for the sake of order - this is how it is supposed to be) and, finally, the cvc code of the card. And then he adds that now a code will be sent to the phone, which will also need to be reported in order to complete the transfer of compensation. As soon as a person follows all the instructions, a certain amount is debited from the card. Often - all available means.

The same as in the previous case.

You have been credited with an extra pension, you need to reconcile it

This fraud case is reminiscent of shock therapy. The pensioner receives a call and is told in a stern voice that last year his pension was mistakenly increased and extra money was added. The pensioner is nervous and asks how this could happen. He is no less sternly told that now he urgently needs to check exactly how much extra money was transferred to him and they demand to tell him the card number. Any objections of the stunned pensioner are suppressed something like this: if we don’t carry out an inspection, you will be fined.

If an elderly person provides the card number, followed by other data, the scammers’ goal is, of course, achieved: the money is debited from the card, notes Anews.

Free legal advice:

Remember: neither the Pension Fund nor the Fund social insurance, nor any other department is involved in calculating compensation or recalculation “by telephone” and does not call people to collect personal information.

Maybe the state should try to somehow catch these scammers. and at the same time stop leaks of personal data?

Fraudsters call pensioners' home phones

So, yesterday at 22:00 (!) our home phone rang. I approach - a sweet female voice asks Nikolai Nikolaevich.

It’s not surprising that clients sometimes call us on the city line, especially out-of-town and foreign ones.

NN picks up the phone, and from the conversation it turns out that they are calling from the pension fund (!) and they find out that NN received or did not receive pensions and other payments there. He says that his wife handles all the finances for his pension savings and passes the phone to me.

Free legal advice:

I introduce myself by my patronymic. The girl says that she is Olga. OK then. I'm starting to wonder if we received a Moscow pension supplement from Sobyanin (!) in October

Point one, to be wary: as far as I know from my experience of communicating with officials, not a single organization ever calls any of the recipients, especially at odd hours. By the way, during the conversation I gave the girl my mobile phone and asked her to call back. So, the call came from a Beeline mobile number.

Government organizations never use mobile numbers to call clients.

Another reason to be wary: 1770 by 4 will not be 8500, but less. Plus, all Sobyanin’s and other additional payments, for which the decision was made from above to “accrue and pay out,” are sent without any intermediary calls along with the next pension, and such a thing as “you were entitled to, but you didn’t receive it” does not happen. By the way, the girl Olga said that we called you, but didn’t get through, and sent a notice, but you didn’t come!

Rave. In particular, we take out mail regularly, our mailbox is reliable, and if the Pension Fund sends notifications, then only by registered letters on receipt.

Free legal advice:

Yeah, yeah, of course. The girl needs the pensioner to come to the ATM and put the card in there. Next are her tasks.

Another point: with all due respect to the employees of the Pension Fund and other funds, they are never so concerned that the recipient receives the funds due to him. If you don’t receive it, they will hang on the balance sheet for some time, and to hell with them.

And we went to the ATM, telling the girl Olga (she actually called back) that yes, we are coming, now we are already packed and running, our heels sparkling, since it is so urgent.

The girl even told us which ATM near our house is open 24 hours a day! Otherwise we didn’t know, hehe.

We come to Sberbank, and the girl Olga calls again! Although the agreement was that we would call her directly from the ATM. No, apparently she couldn’t resist.

Free legal advice:

No,” I say, giggling to myself, “I didn’t come.”

And deliberately out loud: - As it was 80 rubles on the card, it remains so.

The girl Olga continues:

Log in to your personal account – mobile bank– and link our phone number to your card as a trusted one.

I even went to the ATM for this step. And there it is written in large letters on a red background: do not perform this operation on unknown numbers at the request of persons unknown to you.

Free legal advice:

Yeah, I think, so you screwed up.

I pass the phone to my husband.

Why is this necessary? - he asks. – We already have a mobile bank installed. What role will linking your phone to our card play in transferring the surcharge due to us?

Then log in Personal account deposit card for transfers...

Free legal advice:

Logged into the deposit card? – Olga asks. - Next, type the amount... one... zero... and four more zeros...

Is it a hundred thousand, or what? – I’m interested.

Ten rubles! - Olga answers with a blue eye. – And click “continue”!

Wow, they give it. Dial with your own hands and believe that it is ten rubles. And transfer this amount from the deposit to the card, and they will take it from the card somehow.

The ATM buzzed and issued a receipt: “Transaction denied, error.”

Free legal advice:

Which is what I broadcast to Olga on the phone with well-hidden gloating.

Yes? – she was upset. - Well, then let’s link our phone number as a confidential one, otherwise we won’t be able to give you an additional payment... again, you will receive notifications about all of our promotions, medications, sales...

Yes, the client lost his temper, and Olga got nervous and swam. It was in vain that she said about medications: I still kept it in my head that she was calling us Pension Fund employee, not social security, and what does medication have to do with it?

As soon as there was talk about “believe me,” especially from the supposed officials– drain the water, it’s guaranteed to be diluted.

To which the husband said, “Okay, thank you,” but the frustrated girl had already hung up.

Free legal advice:

So, be careful, especially if there are pensioners in the family.

How older people are deceived - learning to recognize scammers

How older people are deceived

Everyone knows the saying: “As old as you are small.” And indeed it is. Elderly people, like children, are very trusting, sometimes even naive. This is taken advantage of by scammers who, without a twinge of conscience, rob defenseless old people. Despite the abundance of information about cases of fraud, every year tens of thousands of elderly people become victims of scammers, who voluntarily give all their savings to the scoundrels. In this article we will talk about how older people are deceived, we will analyze different kinds fraud and ways to protect against them.

How older people are deceived over the phone

Fraudsters have developed many methods to deceive older people. Let us reveal just a few of the schemes by which they operate.

An “employee” of the Pension Fund calls an elderly person’s home phone, addresses them by name and patronymic and reports good news. Supposedly he is entitled to a monthly increase in his pension. The Pension Fund will transfer it to the Sberbank card. The citizen is advised to urgently apply new map and indicate in the application mobile phone(for ease of recalculation). The next day, the “lucky” pensioner tells the scammers the number of the issued bank card.

Free legal advice:

This is how they deceive older people: a person calls a pensioner and, introducing himself as a relative, says that he is in trouble and tearfully asks him to help him - to send money by courier. After some time, a “messenger” arrives and takes the money. The amount of “help” varied; some elderly people gave several hundred thousand rubles.

When asked why they did not recognize their own son (grandson, granddaughter, etc.) by the voice, all the elderly victims answered: the connection was very bad (interference was deliberately created), and the extreme excitement from the news they received took its toll. Fraudsters shamelessly deceive older people, playing on their family feelings.

This is probably one of the oldest schemes. The police say that it is now quite rare for older people to be deceived in this way. They stopped believing such telephone scammers. But still, you shouldn’t let your guard down. As they say, everything new is well forgotten old.

It is very common for older people to be deceived with their lottery “winnings”. The “lucky” person is informed that he has won a car. With joy, he may not even realize that he hasn’t bought anything for a long time. lottery tickets. He does not see the light even after the “lottery organizing committee” offers him to pay tax to someone’s personal account.

Free legal advice:

When older people who have already been deceived before are deceived, this is the most inhumane type of fraud. The “precinct policeman” calls the victim of the scam and “warns” him about the appearance of criminal group deceiving old people. The victim reports that he has already fallen for their hook. Then the “precinct officer” asks to assist the investigation and help catch the criminals “with live bait.” To do this, you need to give the scammers bait - money (which, naturally, will return to the owner) - and not tell anyone about this operation, so as not to scare off the scoundrels.

Then the elderly man gets a call from his “old acquaintances” of scammers and again demands money. He gives them "bait". After this “operation,” the swindlers, along with the money and the “precinct police officer,” disappear without a trace.

How “medical workers” deceive older people

Often, scammers take advantage of the desire of older people to receive treatment and improve their health. This is how “medical workers” deceive older people: a person calls, introduces himself as an employee of the clinic and reports that test results have been received that show that the elderly person is seriously ill. A wide variety of diagnoses are mentioned; many scammers “diagnose” even deadly diseases without remorse. The calling “doctor” offers the pensioner to undergo examination and treatment or buy “miracle” medicines (the prices, of course, are fabulous).

Having agreed on a meeting, the “doctor” comes to the elderly person’s home and conducts a “medical examination”. Then he advertises a miracle cure “for all diseases” and persuades people to buy it. At best, it will be just a dietary supplement, but it also happened that older people bought dangerous drugs from such “doctors” that should not be taken.

Prices for “miracle” drugs depend on the “conscientiousness” of swindlers who deceive older people, often reaching several hundred thousand rubles. Old people, wanting to improve their failing health, give all their savings to the scoundrels.

“Healthcare workers” can sell not only pills and medicines, but also “miraculous” medical devices.

Free legal advice:

Some older people are confident that expensive treatment will restore lost health. But some people don’t have money for expensive medicines and clinics, while others simply cannot accept the fact that their strength is fading. And then a “savior angel” appears in the form of a pleasant-looking middle-aged woman and offers to buy a unique device, developed using secret technologies at a former military plant, capable of eliminating all diseases and restoring youth.

She shows colorful brochures with pictures. The device flashes invitingly with multi-colored lights and makes soft sounds. Under this hum and wink, the uninvited guest reports that the company she represents, under a joint program with the government of the country, specifically for pensioners in your area, is only now selling this miracle of medical technology at low prices. Whereas its real cost, for example, is over thirty thousand rubles.

The approval and support of the ongoing action by the Government of the country and its imminent completion have a magical effect on older people. Almost 85% of pensioners agree to become owners of a “miracle device”. And, having parted with the accumulated money, they become the “happy” owners of a useless (at best) trinket made in China.

How “social service workers” deceive older people

The following scheme for deceiving older people is very often used by swindlers. Fraudsters pose as social security workers and report that the pensioner has received an annual payment or compensation. But you can get it only after paying a certain fee. Having received the money, the scammers instantly disappear “in the fog.”

Or they will ask the pensioner for their bank card number and access code in order to transfer the entitlement subsidy to it. Naturally, after this the money from the card “disappears” in an unknown direction.

Fraudsters often deceive older people in the following simple but fail-safe way. They come to their home, introduce themselves as social service employees and report that they have brought an extraordinary financial assistance. But when paying “completely by accident” it turns out that only large bills remain. Pensioners gladly agree to exchange them. As a result, they receive counterfeits instead of real money.

Free legal advice:

Fraudsters often deceive older people by posing as social security workers, because this is an almost fail-safe way to get into the apartment of pensioners. And distracting and getting old people to talk is generally a trivial matter for them. After visits from such “social security workers”, elderly people discover that money and valuables are missing.

Posing as social insurance workers, scammers take away elderly people’s passports under the pretext of urgently replacing them with a new one. Accruing huge loans in various banks in the name of the passport holder and formalize real estate transactions, as a result of which the old person may lose his home.

How older people are deceived by offering water filters

A scheme to deceive older people, very similar to the one used by “medical workers,” was used by members of a criminal gang that sold “miracle filters” for water purification to older people. Only they didn’t call pensioners on the phone, but came to their homes and put on a real performance. Using simple technical and chemical techniques, they showed old people how water flowing from a tap turns black. In this way they were convinced that drinking such water was dangerous. Therefore, it is simply vital to purchase and install a filter for water purification, costing only some 60 thousand rubles.

Elderly people gave money, and if there was not enough cash, they entered into loan agreements.

The police were unable to stop the activities of this criminal group for a long time, since their actions were assessed as “aggressive marketing” and not as fraud. According to this scheme, scammers often deceive older people by selling other goods (medical devices, plastic windows etc.).

Free legal advice:

How else are gullible elderly people deceived?

There are several other types of scammers who shamelessly deceive older people.

These scammers deceive older people, posing as psychics, promising to get rid of illnesses and improve their lot. Nowadays such “services” are often advertised on television. After watching such programs, pensioners themselves call the “healers.” Often, scammers perform their magic rituals over the phone. The cost of one session can reach up to 50 thousand rubles. And you can deceive and rob naive old people for a very long time if you convince them that a lot of time is needed to achieve a positive result.

This category of scammers acts brazenly and unceremoniously. They enter the apartment, posing as social service workers or sellers of various “wonderful” products (filters, medicines, etc.). One of the swindlers “serves” and distracts an elderly man, the second searches the apartment. He takes all valuables and money, after which both leave. After such visits, pensioners do not immediately discover the loss.

These swindlers deceive their victims right on the street, in front of all honest people. They approach the elderly man, feign joy at meeting him and inform him with a happy smile on their face that they are his second cousins. At the moment they need small amount money, which your beloved uncle probably has. Then they express confidence that he will definitely help them in a family way. Having received the money, they hastily move away from the stunned “relative”.

How to protect older people from scammers

Now about the main thing. How to protect your elderly loved ones from scammers who deceive older people? Explain to them that they do not need to unconditionally trust a person, even if he appears to be an employee of reputable organizations (prosecutor's office, clinic, ministry of health, etc.).

Representatives of government agencies never call to report any news (unless, of course, you leave a request and your phone number for feedback).

If the caller calls you by name and patronymic and knows your address, marital status and other information, this does not mean at all that he is official. Such data can be obtained in different ways.

If you believe the caller, then to be on the safe side, ask for his first and last name and position. Call the organization back and make sure that he is not deceiving you.

Do not under any circumstances buy medicines or medical devices from people claiming to be medical professionals, even if these products come with instructions and quality certificates and are sold at a tempting discount. Remember that all these documents can be easily forged, and the price for such drugs in pharmacies is several times lower and discounts for pensioners are guaranteed there.

If you are told by phone that you are sick and need urgent hospitalization, do not make hasty decisions under any circumstances. Call people you completely trust and tell them about the phone call, ask for advice. It does not take a lot of time.

If a loved one (son, grandson, granddaughter, etc.) calls you on the phone, says that he is in trouble, and asks you to send money via courier, do not rush to do this. Call the caller back, and if he doesn’t pick up, call other relatives.

Do not open the door to strangers and do not let them into the apartment. If they did open it, ask the person who came for his last name, first name, place of work and position held. Then call the organization of which he is a representative and make inquiries about him.

So that a pensioner can receive social payments, the PF will never require him to transfer money to any account. Don't forget this.

Do not share your bank account details with anyone (for example, your access code credit card), even to employees sitting in a bank branch.

Tell all your elderly relatives about in various ways fraud, about how older people are deceived. Emphasize the need to call you immediately in all suspicious cases. Always stay in touch with them and provide them with help and support.
