Demons drop Nethershards, profession crafting materials, and empowered beacons that summon additional enemies as loot. There are several types of lighthouses.

  • Unusual lighthouses:

After 72 years since the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War, some "progressive" ideologists abroad, and some of our fellow citizens, impose on the Russian and world community the conclusion that there was no great feat of the Soviet people, and could not be, because this people committed destructive and destructive acts on a par with Nazi Germany, and therefore ... well, then you already know.

A. S. Pushkin was certainly right when he argued that genius and villainy are “two things that are incompatible”. Indeed, what is genius? This is a creative, and therefore constructive, constructive ability. Villainy, like any evil, is, of course, a destructive, destructive act. Genius does not destroy, but creates. Evil does not create, but destroys.

War is certainly evil, if only because it brings death, material destruction and senseless sacrifice. But this is the case if the aggressors are leading it, trying to physically destroy the neighbors or impose their way of life on them.

Defense of the country and construction

They are trying to convince us, the descendants of the winners of the Great Confrontation, that the Soviet Union was part of the forces of world evil. At the same time, the experience of the thousand-year history of Rus', the Moscow kingdom, Russian Empire, Soviet Union and modern Russia is the struggle and opposition to this very evil.

Maybe they mean the “evil city” of Kozelsk, which stood to the death even when it was absolutely obvious that the enemies would defeat it? And he began to be called “evil” because Russian architects skillfully chose a “slender place” for him and erected a “strong city”.

In the first half of the Great Patriotic War, right up to the Kursk Bulge, our victory was extremely problematic, but this did not prevent the Soviet people from showing miracles of self-sacrifice and mass heroism.

At the same time, all the talk that all this happened under the muzzle of barrage detachments and under the "Gulag" escort is absurd. What detachment drove Alexander Matrosov and more than 300 Soviet soldiers to the embrasure? And which air overseer flew the planes of Gastello and Talalikhin? Calculate what kind of convoy is needed to force almost three million fortifiers, road builders and transport builders to work productively in a combat area.

However, for the construction of defensive lines in the front-line regions and in the depths of the country, where the front line could advance, army sapper and engineering units alone were not enough.

I had to widely involve in this work the population of cities and villages - men aged 15 to 55 years and women - from 16 to 50 years old, with the exception of people employed in enterprises producing defense products. In practice, women under the age of 55, men under 60 were often involved in defensive construction.

Only people who are poor in mind and conscience will be able to accuse these people of contributing to the forces of world evil.

These people do not like the historical figure Dmitry Mikhailovich Karbyshev(1880-1945) - Russian and Soviet military engineer, professor, author of over 100 scientific papers on military engineering art, lieutenant general of engineering troops and Hero of the Soviet Union. Although the course of lectures on his military engineering and pedagogical legacy is still extremely popular in Veist Pont and other foreign military universities.

Our foreign colleagues are especially admired by his practical formula for calculating forces and means when equipping positions with barbed wire fences: "One battalion, one hour, one kilometer, one ton, one row." Regardless of nationality, witty jokers will certainly twist it: "One sapper, one ax, one day, one stump."

In June 1941, Dmitry Mikhailovich was on a business trip in Belarus to collect materials for the development of a new type of fortified area, and, being wounded, was captured. Neither long negotiations nor ill-treatment persuaded him to cooperate with the Nazis.

Unlike domestic pacifists, the non-party general answered his tormentors: "My convictions do not fall out like teeth from a lack of camp rations." On the night of February 17-18, 1945, after the brutal torture of dousing with water, the executioners turned the old general into an ice statue.

Apparently, the defense of the state and the construction of things are so compatible that people are ready to give their lives for it.

Creators of the operational-strategic borders of the country's defense

In the history of our Motherland, the period of the Great Patriotic War is full of many dramatic events that left a deep imprint in the minds of people. The main content of the first summer-autumn campaign of 1941 was the strategic defense on the entire front and the forced retreat.

The defensive actions of the Red Army from the first days of the war were seriously affected by the miscalculations and mistakes of the top political leadership in the field of military-engineering support for the defense of the state.

Preparation of the territory of military operations is one of the important conditions necessary for changing the course of armed struggle and, ultimately, victory. Military construction formations were supposed to stop or slow down the advance of enemy troops with engineering support and participation in battles in all directions of the front.

During the unsuccessful initial period of the war for the Red Army, the troops of the first strategic echelon suffered a major defeat. Construction organizations and battalions found themselves in an extremely difficult situation. Employed at work in fortified areas western border, they came under attack by aviation, artillery and advanced units of the Wehrmacht and immediately suffered heavy losses in people and equipment.

At the same time, the fate of the unarmed military builders who equipped the fortified areas on the western border was tragic. Of the 37 construction battalions of the Baltic OVO, which was transformed into the North-Western Front at the start of the war, less than half were withdrawn. Unarmed people, of course, could not offer organized resistance to the avalanche of German tanks.

The most important problem that had to be quickly resolved in this harsh time was the creation of numerous, deeply echeloned (anti-personnel, anti-artillery, anti-air, anti-tank) fortification systems designed to cover the main strategic areas, economic and administrative centers, and naval bases.

With the direct participation of the heads of engineering departments of the active fronts, the tasks of restoring control and concentrating on new frontiers extending from the western border of building bodies, forming new units and setting tasks for them were solved.

During the retreat, under enemy fire, military construction units built field fortifications, dug anti-tank ditches, laid mines, and built water crossings. For execution earthworks the civilian population, mostly women, was also involved in digging anti-tank ditches, scarps and counterscarps.

In the second half of December 1941, more than 2.1 million people worked simultaneously on the defensive lines, including 1.6 million local people and over 0.5 million personnel of 10 sapper armies, military construction departments and units ( UOBR, UOS, UVPS, construction, work battalions, columns).

The most skilled fighters built bunkers, pillboxes and other engineering structures. The result of their hard work is tens of kilometers of anti-tank ditches, kilometers of open and hidden trenches, trenches, communications, hundreds of artillery and machine-gun positions.

A serious contribution to repelling the blows of the Nazis was made by bunkers. A well-built defensive line, periodically supported by aircraft and long-range artillery, held back the enemy advance with small forces. “It should be noted,” Hitler’s General F. Halder wrote in his military diary on June 24, 1941, “the stubbornness of individual Russian formations in battle. There were cases when the garrisons of pillboxes blew themselves up along with the pillboxes, not wanting to surrender.

To conduct combat operations on the built lines, many dozens of machine-gun and artillery battalions were formed, which organizationally were reduced to fortified areas.

The war made it necessary to solve other tasks that require high engineering qualifications of military builders - clearing minefields, building bridges, organizing heavy equipment crossings.

By December 5, 1941, 10 thousand km of defensive lines were being erected by the forces of military construction units and the local population in the rear areas of the country. About 100 large cities were prepared for defense.

If the border fortified areas played a relatively small role in the course of hostilities, then the newly formed field fortified areas justified themselves and went through the entire war with honor.

Architects and builders in the fight against German aviation

The progress of air defense means always lags far behind the progress of aircraft construction. The military-political leadership of the Soviet Union understood that in the event of a major war, a deep penetration of enemy aircraft into our rear could not be avoided.

But even the most notorious skeptics in the General Staff of the Red Army did not assume that big cities countries and the capital of the USSR itself, located a thousand kilometers from the state border, can be subjected to echeloned attacks by enemy bombers.

The question - whether it will be possible to protect Moscow, Leningrad, the largest industrial centers, transport hubs, military facilities from possible attacks from the air - was ripe in the very first days of the war.

To allow the destruction of key military and civilian facilities was like death. So, in case of a bombing, it was necessary to organize their disguise as soon as possible.

They had to act “in the rhythm of a scalded cat”: already on June 22, the crew from the German strategic intelligence air group from a height of 10,000 m took the first photographs of the Soviet capital. The flight was not detected by the air defense forces, but they found out about it about a month later, when a photographic tablet made on the basis of these images was found in an enemy bomber shot down over the Moscow region. The case of disguise was not only important and urgent, but also completely new for our specialists.

The best aces of Germany set their sights on Moscow, Leningrad and large industrial centers. Their vehicles, equipped with the latest radio equipment and navigational equipment, were capable of unleashing a real firestorm on the bombing targets.

In these difficult days, the country's leadership took prompt measures to provide air defense camouflage for Moscow. And not only Moscow. In fact, it was supposed to create, as it were, an “artificial city” (as seen from the air), where real structures changed their appearance, and mock-ups of strategic objects grew in the empty territories of the capital and the Moscow region. The most active part in this work was taken by Moscow architects, artists, theater decorators and props, engineers, workers of many construction specialties.

Working at the front, building for victory

What was not done in peacetime had to be done at the cost of enormous exertion of all the forces of the people in the war period.

In the difficult conditions of the retreat of the Soviet troops, the bodies of defensive construction, limited in number and capabilities, were not able to start work on the rear defensive lines without urgent help. An intensive search for new organizational forms of the day for construction bodies and units began.

Among the tasks solved in the course of this work was the creation of an organizational structure for military engineering management of defensive construction. A miscalculation in the pre-war assessment of military construction organizations that were part of the system of engineering troops as a whole led to the fact that already during the war, in the shortest possible time, by trial and error, it was necessary to create field military construction units and associations, up to sapper armies, to organize leadership of defensive work on a vast territory, mobilize huge material resources national economy of the country.

In the third decade of August 1941, the military-political leadership of the country developed a number of organizational measures aimed at eliminating the shortcomings of the initial stage of defensive construction. In accordance with the decisions of the State Defense Committee of August 22 and 27, 1941, the defensive construction management system was reorganized and additional mobilization of labor and material resources for defense construction projects was carried out, new plans for the construction of lines and structures were developed.

The involvement of civilian specialists, many construction organizations, the main departments of people's commissariats, the population, as well as military construction organizations engaged in the construction of defense enterprises in peacetime, was an important step in the search for a better form of management of military field construction.

As the study shows, the construction of rear fortification systems in the first months of the war was sent to in full force more than 100 large construction organizations and trusts. Subsequently, they became the main backbone of most military construction units, formations and associations.

A new reorganization of the bodies of defensive construction, caused by a sharp deterioration in the strategic situation at the front, took place on the basis of a decree of the State Defense Committee of October 13, 1941. This decision to create the Main Directorate of Defense Construction (GUOS) of the NPO marked the beginning of the unification of all forces of defensive construction in one body.

By the beginning of January 1942, 17 peripheral organizations functioned as part of the GUOS NPO, which numbered 146 field constructions. They employed 20 thousand engineering, technical and administrative workers. Only during 1941, about 10 million people took part in defensive work, including 6 million inhabitants. Russian Federation, 2 million workers of cities and villages of Belarus and Ukraine.

Students and high school students could be used to build defensive lines only in the summer, and by September 1, that is, by the beginning of the school year, they were released from these works. But already in July-August 1941, patriotic initiatives began to come en masse from students and high school students employed in defensive construction to secure them in these jobs until the end of the war.

So, at the end of July 1941, the authorities responsible for the construction of the Bryansk defensive line received a written statement from a group of students (there were more than 200 signatures under it) with the following content: “We, Komsomol members of Moscow, Bryansk and Oryol educational institutions, we ask you to enlist us in the permanent cadre of military builders and call on all students and students to follow our example and stay on the construction of defensive lines until the end of the war.

Such statements (collective and individual) came in large numbers from students and high school students mobilized for defensive construction.

Youth, students, high school students selflessly erected defensive lines. Where they worked, songs and jokes were always heard. But the results were not always successful, due to the lack of experience, skill, endurance. Many youth units overfulfilled the tasks, but there were also lagging behind.

Komsomol brigadier Nikolai Gromov changed the composition of the units several times in order to lead the lagging behind from the breakthrough, but to no avail. Then he organized the so-called "tow" link from strong guys. Having received a difficult task, this team coped with its implementation in two hours. Gromov's group moved to lagging areas and took them in tow. The links were pulled up, inspired by the labor example, because they did not want to be considered weak.

In the rear they built the whole world

From the first days of the war, the economy of the Soviet Union began to be reorganized to meet the urgent needs of the front as a priority, to strengthen the country's defense capability. The rear of the country played an important role in the victory over the Nazi-German state. From the first days of the war, the Soviet Union began relocating industrial enterprises to the eastern regions of the USSR in order to prevent the enemy from capturing the enormous industrial potential, material and human resources of the Soviet Union.

The main task of Soviet builders during this period was to build up the military-industrial potential of the country. This was due to the transfer of existing enterprises to the production military products, as well as through new construction and restoration of factories evacuated to the Urals and the Volga region, Siberia and Kazakhstan.

In the very first days of the war, a “Mobilization National Economic Plan” was adopted for the third quarter of 1941, soon supplemented by a military economic plan for the last quarter of the year. They provided for the concentration of capital works, material and technical reserves and work force in the near and deep rear of the eastern regions. The task was to concentrate efforts on a relatively small number of "shock construction projects".

During the Great Patriotic War, the conditions and goals of construction changed dramatically. The main task was the construction of new and reconstruction of existing industrial buildings in the east of the country for evacuated enterprises and the restoration of industrial facilities in the liberated areas.

During the war years, architects strove to master all the economic reserves, widely apply local Construction Materials rational use of the territory, reduce the time of construction of buildings. In 1941-1945. new, more rational designs and methods of work production are being created.

Due to the lack of funds and materials, the buildings were built mainly of wood. Construction was carried out in a short time, simplified planning solutions and the amount of installation and finishing work.

The problem of personnel during the war became especially acute. Conscription into the army, exclusion from the sphere of production of the population that ended up in the occupied territory, led to a reduction in the number of workers and employees.

The shortage of labor force in the leading industries was partially compensated for by other sectors of the national economy, the introduction of mandatory overtime work, the abolition of regular and additional holidays. This made it possible to increase the equipment load by about a third.

Successes in the development of the construction industry were achieved as a result of the great efforts of the industry workers. Labor heroism during the war years became a mass, everyday, widespread phenomenon.

During the war, the builder shares the labor and glory with the warrior

On the basis of the order of the People's Commissar of Defense dated July 21, 1943, the Main Directorate for Defense Construction, the UOS RVGK, the FUOS, and separate UVGTS were created in the Soviet Army. Thus, in the hands of the operational and strategic leadership, significant mobile capabilities to consolidate the milestones achieved during the offensive, to carry out other military engineering work.

Instead of the abolished sections of military construction work and construction columns, 190 military construction detachments were formed, in which the technical leadership was combined with the regular workforce. The constancy of the composition led to the growth of skills and the accumulation of experience in the work of military builders.

High-speed construction methods were actively introduced at the front and in the rear. Reducing the construction time of facilities during this period was an urgent need. For this purpose, the project documentation was revised.

As far as possible, the structures and dimensions were simplified, any "excesses" were eliminated, and the possibility of using local materials available to construction organizations was envisaged. The revision of the project documentation resulted in great savings in time and money.

The combination of organizational, control and economic functions contributed to the accumulation of command skills among officers. Bodies of defensive construction of such a structure existed until the end of the war. They solved a large complex of fortification-building, military-engineering tasks and organizational tasks.

In practice, the participation of the civilian population involved in defensive construction was by no means limited to digging anti-tank ditches and other similar works. It also participated in railway and airfield construction.

So, in the Stalingrad direction, through the joint efforts of the railway and construction troops and local residents mobilized for the construction of defensive lines, the Saratov - Ilovlya, Kizlyar - Astrakhan, Stalingrad - Vladimirovka - Baskunchak railway lines were built in a short time and 45 airfields were simultaneously built and 11 landing sites and shelters for front-line aviation.

Moreover, many of these people ended up on the construction of fortifications not by mobilization in order to perform labor service according to the laws of wartime, but by their personal voluntary will.

Veteran of military construction A.S. Kornev claimed that in the section of the Kursk Bulge, where he personally supervised the construction of fortifications, there was no need to mobilize local population for these works, since "people came to the lines without any calls, on their own initiative."

At the level of everyday consciousness in the masses of people employed in the construction of defensive lines, the boundaries between the concepts of "mobilized" and "volunteers" were extremely leveled.

The strength of the spirit of these people was especially clearly manifested in those moments when the enemy subjected the areas for the construction of fortifications on the Kursk Bulge to fierce air strikes. Having waited out the next air raid and buried their fallen comrades, these simple and courageous people, involved in defensive construction, again took up interrupted work, worked even harder, trying to make up for lost time due to air raids.

The best organs and parts of defensive construction were awarded government awards. More than 1,500 military builders, sergeants, officers, as well as workers, employees and collective farmers mobilized for the construction of defensive lines received awards from the Motherland.

The creation of defensive lines around cities and other settlements in large areas of the European part of the USSR has become a truly popular cause. During 1941-1943, at least 12 million people were involved in this construction in one form or another.

It was a real folk feat. The active participation of millions of urban and rural residents in defensive construction was a vivid example of effective interaction armed forces and the civilian population, the unity of the army and the people.

During the Great Patriotic War, vast experience was gained in carrying out defensive work in extreme conditions, and a cadre of leaders capable of solving military engineering problems of any complexity grew up.

Conclusion

Pushkin's idea that genius and villainy are incompatible, L. N. Tolstoy in his novel "War and Peace" formulated as follows - "there is no greatness where there is no simplicity, goodness and truth."

As mentioned above, in the public subconsciousness of ordinary Soviet people who profess the principles of goodness, justice and truth, the idea of compatibility between the defense of the country and the humanitarian goals of construction was not in doubt.

In the current situation, the range of tasks facing the military-construction complex of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has grown significantly and become more complex. However, even now the experience of defensive construction, accumulated during the war years, has not lost its significance.

It was possible to carry out the program of defensive work on the construction front of the Great Patriotic War thanks to the labor heroism and courage of the Soviet people. At the heart of such heroism and courage was the patriotism of the people, which during the war years turned into one of the driving forces of the Victory.

Not only on May 9, Victory Day, we must remember the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, treat them with buckwheat porridge and a portion of vodka from the People's Commissar. The professional construction community needs to consolidate its efforts in preserving the remnants of the health of the soldiers and workers of the home front of the Great Patriotic War and generalize their memories, their invaluable experience.

Happy Victory Day, dear colleagues! I urge everyone to take an active part in the march of the "Immortal Regiment" in order to feel the holy concept of the inseparability of the defense of the state and the humanitarian goals of construction activities in a single ranks of the living and the dead.

By the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, most hydroelectric power stations in the USSR were built under the control of the NKVD with the extensive use of prisoner labor. The captured German and Japanese soldiers also often worked side by side with the prisoners of the Gulag.

By the end of 1945, about 3.5 million people, mostly Germans and Japanese, were in Soviet captivity. Given the shortage of labor due to heavy losses in the war and the huge amount of work to restore the destroyed economy, it was decided to use the labor of prisoners of war, including in the construction of hydroelectric power stations. At the same time, Gulag prisoners were also involved in the process.

References to the work of prisoners of war are quite common when it comes to the construction and restoration of many hydroelectric power plants throughout the country. It is often noted that they were trusted responsible work requiring high quality workmanship. At the same time, good relations often developed between prisoners of war, other builders and local residents, which at first glance seems surprising.

So, prisoners of war participated in the completion of the Uglich hydroelectric power station. Old-timers recall that the captured Germans worked diligently and disciplined. They were entrusted with the decoration of facades, and architectural work, and the construction of houses on the gateway along with a bridge across it, and cladding with slabs.

Hubert Denezer, a former German prisoner of war who got to the construction of the Uglich hydroelectric power station in 1944, recalls: “The camp was located on the left bank. , repair, fire station, boiler room. I worked in Uglich for 22 months. I ran 148 steps up and down the stairs in the arch of the gateway with a bucket for water to mix cement. I mastered many construction professions. When I returned in 1948 from captivity to Germany, I myself built a house for himself... In winter we sawed ice on the Volga, cleaned the cellars of old ice. In the summer we took manure to the fields. We saw girls there, joked and laughed."

The captured Germans also worked at the new construction site of the Tsimlyansk hydroelectric power station, although not for very long - from 1948 to 1950. There were more than 5 thousand of them, and they participated mainly in the work of the preparatory period - stone mining in quarries, construction of roads, etc. Among the prisoners of war were convicted or war criminals under investigation. Their labor was used in more difficult jobs. They were taken out under the reliable reinforced guard of the troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in such a way as to ensure their isolation from the population and other workers.

Japanese prisoners of war worked on the construction of the Farkhad hydroelectric power station in Uzbekistan, the largest hydroelectric power station in Central Asia at that time. There were, according to various sources, from three to five thousand people. They were entrusted with the most responsible and complex work. In addition to the dam of the station, they built two drainage canals, which are still operating without repair and water loss. Old-timers note that the Japanese did not know how to hack and worked honestly, conscientiously, did not allow marriage.

The contribution of prisoners of war to the construction of hydroelectric power plants was significant, but the work did not last long - by the end of 1949, the vast majority of prisoners were repatriated to their homeland.

January 30th, 2012

The other day, while searching for information on the Rzhev-Vyazemsky defensive line, on the site "Feat of the People", I unexpectedly came across a map that was dated May 1941 and entitled - "Scheme of fortified areas of the third line along the line: Ostashkov, Rzhev, Vyazma, Spas-Demensk" (fund 208 inventory 2511 file 309).

At first, I thought that the date was set erroneously, but the date of its compilation was found on the map itself - May 17, 1941, and at the top, where Timoshenko's signature should have been, "" May 1941. There was a place for Zhukov's signature at the bottom, but hers too no, but the signature of the head of the department for fortified areas of the spacecraft, Major General Shiryaev, is available.

A chain of 4 URs stretched exactly along the line of the Rzhev-Vyazemsky defensive line. The fact is that until now it was believed that they began to build (and design) this line only after the start of the Great Patriotic War, and here is the finished map, with the location of the URs, their defense units and strongholds. In the lower right corner there is a sign with a layout according to how many and what structures should be built and how much it will cost. Judging by the table, the first stage of construction was to be completed by June 1, 1942, an intermediate stage by January 1, 1942.

In 1940 and 1941, the first line was actively built - the so-called "Molotov Line", along new frontier, which arose in September 1939.
The second line - the "Stalin Line", abandoned in places by the troops (who advanced to the west), and in some places being reconstructed, ran along the old border. And now it turns out that a third line was also planned, some 300 km from Moscow. In total, 4878 defensive structures were to be built, of which 1296 were in the first year of construction. total cost line was estimated at almost two billion rubles, while in the second half of 1941 almost 440 million rubles were to be "mastered".
There are no signatures on the map, and it is not known whether, before June 22, 1941, an order was given to start its construction, but in any case, a lot of preparatory work was carried out to reconnoiter and design the line. Based on the fact that the estimate was calculated (with an accuracy of thousands of rubles), it can be assumed with a high degree of certainty that by this time detailed projects had been created along the entire line, the volumes of earthworks, concrete and other works had been determined.
It is not very clear at the expense of what forces it was planned to build it - the plan for the Molotov Line was not carried out, literally all the forces were thrown into its construction (concrete was poured even on the night of June 22), in addition, the reconstruction of the Stalin Line and the formation of for her new parts.

I do not want to draw quick conclusions, although they suggest themselves - the Soviet Union was preparing for defense and for war on its territory.

It is possible that this card, this is part of a report that was presented to Stalin on May 24, 1941. It was written in a single copy by hand on May 15, 1941: "Considerations on the plan for the strategic deployment of the Armed Forces of the Soviet Union in case of war with Germany and its allies."
"Considerations ..." contained the following postscript by Vatutin's hand: "At the same time, it is necessary to speed up the construction of fortified areas in every possible way, start building fortified areas at the rear line of Ostashkov, Pochep and to provide for the construction of new fortified areas in 1942 on the border with Hungary, as well as to continue the construction of fortified areas along the line of the old state border.
Ostashkov is just the northern flank of the line, and Pochep is the southern one.

Judging by polls on specialized forums, no one has ever seen such a card and did not even suspect its existence. No mention of these 4 URs has ever been seen before.

Here is such a mystic. It is curious that the search menu on the site "Feat of the People" starts from 06.1941, for May this is the only map located on the site. The only explanation for its appearance is that it was in the same inventory with the September maps of the Western Front, along the Rzhev-Vyazemskaya line. Perhaps it was used for verification or as a sample, and then at the same time handed over to the archive.
During declassification and digitization, no attention was paid to the date and it slipped into the public domain.

Probably, one can find some evidence of the beginning of preparations for the construction of this line. Perhaps the funds were included in the budget of the USSR for 1941, the tasks for the production of equipment for bunkers and their weapons were included in the plans of the factories, perhaps some builders were already nominated in this area, camps were opened, etc.

Since the map is very large (you can find it either on the site or on torrents - it's strange that they didn't pay attention to it earlier), I'll give several parts of it with urs for greater clarity.

The width along the front is 140 km. There is a large forefield in front of the UR. I must say that in 1941, along the front edge of the forefield, the front line of defense passed. You can also pay attention to the fact that the defense nodes are located along the Volga in such a way as to defend the flank from an attack from the north. In 1941, they had to hold the opposite bank of the Volga. Draws attention to the line near the city of Bely, which covers the junction between the URs.

The width along the front is 120 km. It goes along the Dnieper. highway and Railway covered by one defense center in the Izdeshkovo area.

130 km along the front, at the front border of the UR, the city of Yelnya

95 km along the front. In 1941, the line of defense ran about the same, including the foreground.

To be continued (hopefully)
