The Tyumen region is the largest subject of the Russian Federation in terms of territory. There are two autonomous okrugs on the territory: Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansiysk. In the territorial division of labor, the region acts primarily as the main base for supplying the country and Russian exports with hydrocarbon raw materials.

Natural resource potential

The Tyumen region has the following types natural resources: oil, gas, hard and brown coal, ferrous and non-ferrous metal ores, chemical raw materials, building materials. A significant part of all potential fuel and energy resources of Russia is concentrated here. Oil and gas fields have been explored in the thickness of sedimentary rocks, forming the main part of the West Siberian oil and gas province. The main oil fields are located in the Middle Ob region (Samotlorskoye, Megionskoye, etc.; Ust-Balykskoye, Fedorovskoye in the Nizhnevartovsk region). Natural gas fields are located in the subpolar region: Medvezhye, Urengoy, etc., in the Arctic - Yamburgskoye, Ivankovskoye, etc.

The Tyumen region has significant water resources (primarily the Ob and Irtysh rivers), which, along with fully providing the region with water, have energy value and fish resources.

Forest resources are located throughout the Tyumen region.

Population and labor resources

In the population structure, more than 70% of the population are Russians, other nationalities include Ukrainians - 8.4%, Tatars - 7.3%. The peoples of the North live mainly in the north of the Tyumen region - Nenets, Khanty, Mansi. The share of indigenous residents of the North in the region's population is insignificant; in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug their share is 1.6%; in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug - 6.1%. Issues of preserving economic and social conditions The survival of the peoples of the North is carried out by the associations of small northern peoples “Saving Ugra” and “Yamal for Descendants”.

The population density in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is 0.71 people per 1 km 2, in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug it is 2.84, the average for the region is 2.32 people per 1 km 2.

Location and development of the main sectors of the economy

More than 90% of the industry is the fuel and energy complex, including the fuel industry - 87.1%; electric power industry - 6.1%. The fuel industry is formed by oil production - 72.5% and gas industry — 14,4%.

The oil industry is undergoing significant territorial shifts. Along with the main region of the Middle Ob region, the formation of new, more northern, oil-producing regions began, right up to the Arctic zone. The largest gas fields - Urengoyskoye and Yamburgskoye - meet the needs of Russia, neighboring countries and exports.

The main centers of oil production are Surgut, Nizhnevartovsk, Nefteyugansk, etc. The main centers of gas production are Nadym, Urengoy, Novy Urengoy, Berezovo, Yamburg, etc.

The most important oil pipelines coming from the Tyumen region: Ust-Balyk - Tobolsk - Omsk - Pavlodar - Chimkent; Surgut - Tobolsk - Kurgan - Ufa - Samara; Surgut - Perm - Almetyevsk - Kazan - Nizhny Novgorod— Yaroslavl-Polotsk; Nizhnevartovsk - Anzhero-Sudzhensk - Krasnoyarsk. The largest gas pipelines: I grim - Serov - Yekaterinburg, Medvezhye - Punga - N. Tura - Perm - Kazan - Nizhny Novgorod - Moscow; Urengoy - Medvezhye - Nadym - Vuktyl - Torzhok - Minsk - Western border; Urengoy - Surgut - Tobolsk - Tyumen - Chelyabinsk - Petrovsk; Urengoy - Novopskov; Urengoy - Pomary - Uzhgorod, etc.

IN timber industry complex includes forestry, logging industry, wood processing and wood chemical industries. The main capacities of the logging industry are concentrated in the Middle Ob region. in the area of the Tavda-Sotnik, Ivdel-Ob railways. Tyumen - Tobolsk - Surgut in the Tyumen region.

The largest thermal power plants are located in Surgut and Urengoy.

Transport and economic relations

There are not enough railways in the region. Construction in the region Railway"Labggnangi - Bovanenkovskaya" for the development of deposits of the Yamal Peninsula.

Labytnangi is the starting point of the unique Obskaya - Bovanenkovo railway. The construction of this transport artery is being carried out by OJSC Yamaltransstroy. The commissioning of the Bovanenkovo line will complete the optimal transport scheme for Labytnanog and open an effective path to the industrial development of the Yama Peninsula!

Road transport serves mainly domestic cargo transportation, but there are highways connecting the region with other regions, for example, the highway passing through Nefteyugansk, Tobolsk, Tyumen.

Intradistrict differences

The Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug specializes in the oil industry, electric power (Surgut State District Power Plant-1 and State District Power Plant-2, Nizhnevartovskaya State District Power Plant, etc.), and gas processing industry.

The basis of the economy of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is the gas production industry; more than 90% of Russian gas is produced here. On the territory of the district, in addition to hydrocarbon reserves, there are deposits of ferrous and non-ferrous metal ores, phosphates, building materials etc. More than half of the district is located beyond the Arctic Circle, which complicates economic development.

There are 26 cities in the region, the largest being Tyumen. Tobolsk, Surgut, Nizhnevartovsk, Novy Urengoy.

Main problems and development prospects

The development of large enterprises in the Tyumen region for the extraction, processing and transport of oil and gas in difficult natural and climatic conditions necessitates a specific approach to the protection environment, carrying out environmental protection measures, creating priority environmental management zones.

Based on the “Development Strategy of the Tyumen Region until 2020,” the main development objectives are formulated - diversification of the economic structure and the formation of development clusters.

The strategic directions of development include the most significant sectors of the regional economy: oil and gas refining, electric power, mechanical engineering, forestry, as well as tourist and recreational and construction complexes, scientific-innovative and transport-logistics sectors, etc.

Particular attention is paid to expanding the scale of small business and developing the agro-industrial complex.

Economy and economy of the Tyumen region

The Tyumen region is the largest subject of the Federation in terms of territory. There are two autonomous okrugs here: Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansiysk-Ugra. Forest resources are located throughout the Tyumen region, with the exception of the regions of the far north (polar and subpolar).

Population. In the population structure, more than 70% are Russians, from other nationalities: Ukrainians - 8.4%, Tatars - 7.3%. The peoples of the North live mainly in the north of the Tyumen region - Nenets, Khanty, Mansi. Transport. In most of the north of the Tyumen region, the main mode of transport is air. Pipeline transport is of great importance for the transportation of oil and gas.

There are not enough railways in the region, especially in the northern part. The Trans-Siberian Railway runs through the south of the region; in the 80s of the 20th century. The Tyumen-Surgut-Nizhnevartovsk-Novy Urengoy railway was built. The Labytnangi-Bovanenkovskaya railway is being built in the region to develop the deposits of the Yamal Peninsula.

To a large extent, inter-district and intra-district transportation of goods is carried out along the rivers of the Ob-Irtysh basin, which have navigable importance.

Road transport serves mainly domestic cargo transportation, but there are highways connecting the region with other regions. For example, a highway passing through Nefteyugansk, Tobolsk, Tyumen. Currently under construction highway to New Urengoy.
